The 2026 Marc de Montalembert Prize in Art History has been awarded to Marion Sergent, France, PhD in Art History from Sorbonne University, for her research entitled “Henry Valensi (1883-1960), a Mediterranean Modernist” on the mobility and integration of this painter within artistic networks. Henry Valensi, born in Algiers, is the founder of musicalism. This research aims to analyse the structuring role of the Mediterranean in his life and thought. The objective is to offer a contextualized reinterpretation of Valensi’s work and to contribute to a polycentric history of modern art.
Ms. Sergent will have access to the École du Louvre Research Centre throughout 2026, during which time she will benefit from the support of a member of the research team’s scientific advisory board.
